Summary hearing in ex-president's money laundering trial set for tomorrow
The hearing for summary statements in ex-President Abdulla Yameen’s money laundering trial will be held at the Criminal Court on Wednesday.
Initially set to be held on Thursday, it was preponed a day early and will now begin at 1pm on Wednesday.
On 25 September, the testimony hearings in the trial concluded and a verdict hearing will be scheduled after the summary hearing.
Another hearing will also be held to decide a sentence once the court proves the charges against Yameen.
If found guilty of the charges which he has denied in court, Yameen could face a jail sentence between five to 15 years.
The former is accused of laundering USD one million through state-run Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) via a private company, Scores of Flair (SoF), during his five-year term which ended last November.
Further accusations against him include using funds for financial gain despite being ordered to transfer it to an escrow account under an agreement with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
