824 people at quarantine facilities: HPA
Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed that there are 824 people in the quarantine facilities at the moment.
Following the decision of the government to quarantine all those who arrive in the Maldives except for tourists, many are quarantined at designated facilities. The government has now suspended the issuance of on-arrival visas, due to which only locals and expatriates who work in the Maldives can enter the country at the time being. All are being quarantined.
HPA said there are currently 824 people at the quarantine facilities that are located in various parts of the country. 20 people in isolation, said HPA.
16 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives thus far. This includes two Italians who have since departed from the country. All but one of the remaining patients were foreigners. The country has recorded 11 recoveries, and the number of active cases is currently 3. The recovered patients are still in quarantine facilities for 30-days monitoring.
The only local who is tested positive arrived in the Maldives on March 22 from the United Kingdom. He was tested for COVID-19 on March 25, and the results were received on Friday. He is being quarantined in the facility at Holiday Island Resort since his arrival in the Maldives.
