Parliament Appoints Permanent Civil Service Commission
Five days after the two year transition passed the Parliament today appointed five member Civil Service Commission. The five appointees are Dr Latheef, Mohamed Fahmee Hassan, Khadeeja Hassan, Ahmed Hassan Didi, and Abdullah Jihaad. The first three are also members in the current transitional commission while Mr. Jihaad is the former Central Bank Governor and the Minister of Finance and Treasury.
The biggest challenge for the commission will be to find a way of forcing the Government to comply with the Civil Service Act. The Government has refused to release Civil Servants’ salary as passed in 2010 budget. The commission has filed and won a lawsuit against the Government in the Civil Court. Government has since appealed to the High Court.
Commission will also has to find a way of Governemnt’s continued harassment of civil servants’ who decline to join the ruling MDP.
