President has mobilized armed forced in the streets of the capital Male’ following the arrest of opposition leaders and MPs, since the formal separation of armed forces from the civilian police force in 2005 this is the first time the armed forces have been mobilized in the streets of the Male. All the roads leading to parliament, president’s office, presidential palace, police and military head quarters have been barricaded by members of armed forces.

Today when accepting resignation of ministerial resignation president Nasheed reiterated that he is the head of armed forces and police force, indirectly indicating that he would use these forces.
